Types of Flat Plannel Dispaly. Television and Monitor Buying Guide, everything that you always wanted to know.

 Have you ever wondered, what does Led Mean, what does Lcd Mean? I bet that it would have been tough for you to decide when you went out to buy a flat panel monitor. I see that most people do not have any clue when it comes to monitor and televisions and its terminology.

Today, here in this writing, I will try to educate you and displace some of the misinformation floating around in the internet and in the market.

Whatever I am writing here in this articles, applies to all flat panel display, be it monitor, be it Tv or be it mobile phone. All use similar displays and similar or same display technology.

So first and foremost, what is led monitor or led tv and how is it different from lcd monitor or Lcd Tv?
My answer is going to blow you away, well in reality both LED and Lcd panels are the same, unless we are talking about Oled.
You must be astonished to read my answer, how can both be same, well that's the beauty of marketing. Well both are essentially the same panel with a little difference.

The term Led, in tv or monitor or display, means that backlighting is done by LED. Well inexpensive LED backlighting uses white led, while expensive ones RGBW led backlighting. RGBW backlighting ha higher gamut range, which means panel is able to reproduce more colors. So in short, LCD panel with led backlighting is being Led panel. Well correct terminology would be Led backlight LCD.

How LCD panel is different from LED panel ?
Well older LCD panel used white fluorescent lamp as backlighting. Until 2010, almost all LCD panel used fluorescent lamp as backlighting. But trend started to change, when white led and its efficiency improved along with the costs.

Well now a days Led panel is cheaper and easier manufacture. You must be wondering, which one should you get and why?
The answer is LED panel, because they are more power efficient and it needs less energy and offers higher dynamic contrast ratio, as it is easier to turn on led, turn off led and control the brightness of led than fluorescent lamp, led produce heat, led do not need high voltage supply but fluorescent lamps do.

Why some LCD LED Panels such as pc monitors, laptop screen has bad viewing angle and they look different from different angles?
The answer to this question is that you must be using TN panel also known as twisted nematic panel. Well they are cheapest to manufacture, they have bad viewing angle, they are inferior when it comes to color reproduction and color tend to shit a lot thought they tend to have faster response rate.

Which panel is best or at least better than TN panel?
Well there are many panel types, such as IPS (In Plane Switching) has sub types e-ips, ah-ips,s-ips,p-ips, VA (Verticle Alightnemt) has many sub types such as AMVA, S-MVA, P-MVA, and PVA ,  PLS (Plane to Line Switching), AHVA (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle), they all are better than TN pannel.

Verticle Alighnment displays offer a good deal of improvement over Twitted nematic panels, VA panel has highest amount of contrast, the contrast ratio is in between 2000:1-5000:1, it produces deeper black. It does not suffer much from bleeding problem. It has better viewing angle and better color reproduction capabilities with less color shift. But it has its own problem and the issue it faces is pixel response time. VA panel tend to be slowest and least responsive because of response time. Slow response time means, it will lead to blurring during video and game plays. This kind of panel is not well suited for fast action, but tend to be great for photo editing works.

In Plane Switching is a very mature technology, and it is generally considered as the best. Two other technologies which comes close to IPS are PLS and AHV. IPS panel offers great viewing angles, it tends to have superior color accuracy, and it also does not suffer from color shift. Depending on model and technologies it has ability to reproduce wider gamut of color. So these panel are good for color critical work and editing. IPS panels are relatively fast and does not suffer from ghosting and blurring, as VA panels suffer. It is good for almost every work you can imagine. IPS pannels are one one of the most deployed panel in it industry after TN panel.

You will be able to find TN display, IPS dispaly almost everywhere, almost all low end device has TN pannel, and almost all mid to high range devices has IPS panel. It does not matter, be it mobile phone, be it Television or be it monitor. These two dipalys rules the it space.

Is there anything better than IPS panel?
If incase money if not an issue and you are not restrained by budget, then do not look else where , your best bet is OLED. OLED is newer technology, which is better than LCD. Since it is a newer technology, it costs more than LCD.

In a nutshell, VA panels are better than TN panels regarding color reproduction. In past IPS panel tends to be expensive, but their cost has come down and now they are most popular. In every sphere it has better performance, it supports all kind of resolution, right hd to 5k. I tried my level best to keep this article brief, informative yet entertaining.
